Dutch Maid Company History

DUTCH MAID LOGISTICS INC. is a company that has grown out of a produce farming operation located in Celeryville, just south of Willard, Ohio. Our parent company, Wiers Farm Inc., has a history going back over 100 years. The Wiers family moved from Kalamazoo MI to the Willard area in 1896. From a five-acre plot, the farm has grown to a complex which today farms more than 2000 acres and raises more than 30 types of produce. Between May and October each year, fresh produce is shipped daily to most major cities in the Eastern half of the United States.
 
Dutch Maid Inc. was incorporated in December of 1977 as a separate company. The primary purpose for the separation from the farming operation was to provide greater flexibility and service to Wiers Farm customers. Also, by a reduction in the cost of transportation, Wiers Farm was able to be more competitive in its produce pricing. Dutch Maid Produce started with four tractors and four refrigerated trailers. At first, an effort was made to operate only as a private exempt carrier, but it did not take long to realize Dutch Made Produce would need full Interstate Commerce Commission authority to add diversity to the operation.
 
We are now an Irregular Route Common Carrier with General Commodity Authority for 48 states. In addition, we have a number of contract authorities as well as a broker authority. Currently, our fleet consists of approximately 91 over-the-road tractors and 157 trailers. Back in 1977, exempt produce-hauling accounted for less than 20% of our annual tonnage.
 
Dutch Maid Produce Inc. name was changed early in 1998 to Dutch Maid Logistics Inc. to reflect the operations of the Company. This was done so the company would be recognized not only as a produce carrier but also as a General Carrier of Refrigerated as well as Dry Commodities.
 
Many of our Staff has been with Dutch Maid since it was incorporated. Most of our male staff members are former over the road truck drivers and understand the needs of our drivers. We are a family-owned and family-oriented company and pride ourselves in professionalism. We are always searching for courteous and safety-minded drivers to join our team.
